Merchant Marine Expeditionary Medal


The Merchant Marine Expeditionary Award was authorized by the Merchant Marine Decorations and Awards Act on May 30, 1988. The first awards were to mariners serving aboard US flag vessels supporting Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm after August 2, 1990, in the waters of the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, the Gulf Aden and the portion of the Arabian Sea north of 10 degrees north latitude and west of 68 degrees east longitude. Merchant Mariners in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom also qualify for the award.
