Deputy Star Badge

Deputy Star Badge story inside the box:

The Old West was a lawless place where outlaws often reigned supreme. Even a well seasoned and tough sheriff needed the help of a deputy, after all someone had to make the coffee. But seriously, the role of the deputy was no joking matter. He often stood guard at the jail, served warrants, and had the sheriff's back. Their role was important and they were in high demand. Often times local businessmen and ranchers were deputized to fill this need. Some famous deputy sheriffs are James W. Bell aka Lone Bell - served under Pat Garrett during the Lincoln County Wars and was killed by Billy the Kid; Wyatt Earp appointed as deputy sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona in 1880; William Bartholomew "Bat" Masterson served as deputy sheriff of Ford County, Kansas before being elected sheriff.
