His film career spanned 5 decades from 1926 to 1976. Throughout his career, he acted in, directed, or produced over 250 films. In True Grit he portrays U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, who is described as a fearless, one-eyed U.S. Marshal who never knew a dry day in his life. Wayne won his only Academy Award for his performance in this film
