Marshal Deadwood

After the murder of Wild Bill Hickok and the inexplicable acquittal of Jack McCall, the leading citizens of Deadwood decided they needed some law and order. On August 5, 1876, just 3 days after Wild Bill went down, they set up the position of Town Marshal. The first Deadwood Marshal was Isaac Brown and unfortunately for him his career lasted a measly two weeks. On August 20th Isaac and three others were heading to Deadwood from Crook City when they were attacked by Lakota Indians and killed. On September 16th a miners’ court elected Con Stapleton as the new Marshal.
